I have had the pleasure of attending a Matchbox 20 concert where they played seven songs from this album. I have listening to Matchbox 20 since I was about seven, and a decade later I continue to listen to them. I would definitely suggest listening to this album to anyone who wants to listen to catchy songs. Rob Thomas and his band from Orlando, Florida, are very talented song writers and deserve plenty of credit for their 30 million copies sold spanning over the four records they have released. However, while listening to some songs, it may be hard to notice how dark the album really is. While listening to some songs, such as Argue or Back 2 Good, the listener could sense the anger and the meaning behind the song and lyrics. The last four or so tracks are easily skippable, and after being treated by the first seven, you'll want to just start from the beginning again. Although the second half of the album isn’t as consistent as the first, Damn and Argue are personal favorites. It’s been a long day, always ain’t that right.” More singles follow, including 3 A.M., Push, and Back 2 Good, which continue the conversation of anger, depression, and loneliness. Depression and loneliness stand out in the song, as shown in the following lyrics: “Reach down your hand in your pocket pull out some hope for me. Next up, is Long Day, which was the first single released for the debut album. This is my favorite song on the album, although I enjoy plenty of others. With an upbeat and catchy guitar riff, followed by lyrics describing a how his dreams are always drawn back to reality. Real World, which was released as their fifth single, opened the album. Even the album cover, which features a man with a funny hat in a black and white filter. Through the music he expresses his darkest thoughts on depression, loneliness, and anger. Rob Thomas, the lead singer, wrote or co-wrote all twelve songs on the album. This is one-of-four studio albums released by Matchbox 20, all of which ranked in the Top 5 on the Billboard 200. All five singles released for the album entered the Top 100 in the United States. 9.3 million copies were sold, which prompted the album to go 12x Platinum and Diamond in multiple countries including Australia and New Zealand. This album features a mixture of rock and grunge, which is still present in their recent albums.
